• What transpired was the s/t debut album of First Signal. The album, of course, was fantastic, and sparked some interest in the AOR/Hard Rock community. A couple of years later and Hess was back in full (mood) swing with his old bandmates in Harem Scarem, so it looked like perhaps First Signal was going to be a one shot deal.

• Never a band to rush art, System of a Down’s third studio album, Mezmerize (of which Hypnotize is the companion), came a full three and a half years after its predecessor, Toxicity. For a band looking to capitalise on mainstream success, taking three years out to record a double album to be released over a six-month period seems like an odd.

• Ultimately, Electric President’s self titled full length debut is a rare occasion where I find the individual parts are greater then the whole. The songs work better by themselves, listening to the whole album the entire way through becomes tedious by the end. It is an album worth checking out simply because there is good stuff present on it.

• Nonetheless, Electric President mix electric guitar with an occasional thicker wall of sound during "We Were Never Build to Last," which veers from soft to loud and back. A tender, Neil Young-ish lullaby ballad entitled "Farewell" closes this generally good but occasionally uneven album.

• I was in a christian book store when a couple of teenagers who were looking at some CD's made a slight noise when they came upon the Stryper CD. I realized the noise they were making was laughter when they talked about how old the band was. Needless to say, it made this 31 year old feel ancient.
