Now Pavement – Wowee Zowee rightly acclaimed as a masterpiece — it’s conventional to call it Pavement’s best album but On April 11th, , when they released their third album, Wowee Zowee, and everybody hated it.

Pavement never abandon their warped pop aesthetic, they simply expand it, incorporating elements of folk-rock, English music hall, soul, jazz, country, as well as adding asides to such contemporaries as Suede ("We Dance"), Ween.

Controversial because it disappointed fans and music critics who expected the band to make an accessible and melodic record like its predecessor, Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain () - which spawned 3 singles (including "Cut Your Hair", whose music video was played a lot on MTV).

• We went down to a studio in Memphis called Easely and recorded 60 percent of Wowee Zowee there. ‘We Dance’ could’ve been a B-side, but you put it first and it becomes important to the album.
